LEGO Discovery Centre

12 themed areas, a 4D cinema, a miniature Hamburg, and over two million LEGO bricks. Best for ages 2 to 12. Indoors, obviously.

There are days when you need a plan that will not fall apart, a place that has already thought about what happens when a four-year-old runs out of ideas, and a café where you can sit down and see your kids without having to hover. The LEGO Discovery Centre Hamburg is exactly that place. It opened in 2025 inside the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, covers more than 3,000 square metres across 12 themed areas, and has over two million LEGO bricks in it. Your child already knows what LEGO is. The rest follows naturally.

One rule worth knowing before you get anywhere near the ticket page: adults are only admitted when accompanied by at least one child. No exceptions. There are separate LEGO Afterwork Events for adults who want to play without kids, which is either a very good idea or extremely revealing about the adults involved, depending on how you look at it.

What’s Actually There

The 12 areas cover a lot of ground. There are open building tables with bricks by the bucketload, a LEGO DUPLO Park for the under-threes, a Space Mission zone where kids build their own spaceship and launch it in an interactive video game, ramps and vehicle tracks, a rocket building station, and a miniature model of Hamburg built entirely from LEGO bricks. The Imagination Express is a ride through LEGO worlds. There’s also a 4D cinema, which the original article doesn’t mention at all but kids consistently enjoy.

Master Model Builder workshops run during the visit where the in-house LEGO experts share their techniques and run building challenges. These add a layer of structure for kids who want something more focused than free play. Worth checking what’s on when you book.

On weekdays between 10:00 and 13:00 the centre runs Little Play Times, sessions specifically designed for parents with toddlers up to 3 years old. A dedicated Playmaker guides kids through play ideas in a less crowded, calmer environment. Ticket covers one adult and one toddler. If you have a small one and a quiet Tuesday morning, this is worth knowing about.

The Café and the Age Thing

The LEGO Café is on site with comfortable seating and a direct view over the play areas. Reviewers consistently describe the prices as reasonable and the staff as friendly. It’s the kind of setup where you can actually drink a full coffee while watching your kid build a spaceship 10 metres away, which is not something you can say about every indoor attraction.

The sweet spot for this place is ages 2 to 10. Below 2 it’s a bit overwhelming. Above 10 the experience starts to thin out, and a few reviewers with older kids note this directly. One family with a 12-year-old said he still had a good time but the centre is clearly built around younger children. Honest assessment rather than a criticism.

Getting There

U4 to Überseequartier, then follow signs through the Westfield to the ground floor entrance. Step-free throughout with lifts and ramps. Accessible toilets on site. Book tickets online in advance, the centre can sell out on site especially at weekends.

Annual passes are available for Hamburg residents who want to come back.
